About Us: B3

B3 is a grant and operating program of The Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies (ACBP), a family of charitable foundations operating in Canada, Israel, and the United States. ACBP's mission is to encourage young people to strengthen their knowledge and appreciation of their history, heritage, and culture as well as to support programs to improve the quality of life in Israel. In 1998, at the General Assembly of United Jewish Communities, ACBP Chairman Charles Bronfman joined with Jewish philanthropist Michael Steinhardt to announce the creation of Taglit-Birthright Israel.

B3 is a program aimed at providing research and development services to Taglit-Birthright Israel in partnership with the Birthright Israel Foundation. Using the resources of ACBP, B3's mission is to engage in projects to enhance Taglit-Birthright Israel's resource and community development.

The first project that B3 has elected to undertake is a joint venture in resource development and donor relations with selected Jewish Federations of North America. B3 is providing individual Federations with funding to hire B3 professionals who will:

  • Work cooperatively within the Federation, as a Federation employee, to identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts for Taglit-Birthright Israel through a joint Federation-Taglit-Birthright Israel approach.
  • The B3 professional's efforts will entail community education, lay leadership relations, and close coordination with Federation colleagues, especially the Birthright Israel NEXT professional. In addition to funding, B3 will provide consultative services and inter-agency coordination to Federations.

Just as Taglit-Birthright Israel has worked to bring new participants to Jewish communal life, so will B3 and the B3 professional work to bring new participants to the Federation system, creating a cadre of new donors (and/or donors who give at increased levels) who are passionate about young adults, Israel, and Jewish causes.
